Who Are They?

The photographs shown below are from a collection the late Bill Martin rescued on behalf of the Historical Society from discarded files of the Nanty Glo Journal. There were no captions on the photos, so the Society is soliciting your help in identifying these people from Blacklick Valley's history. Do you know them? Please let us know and we will fill in the blanks as answers are provided. Even "best guesses" are welcome, along with any clues you might suggest on the time the photos were taken for the Journal. These photos are tentatively identified as being from 1968. Send your feedback to webmaster@nantyglo.com.

From Tom Kuftic, 4-13-2010: This "one is Peggy Rager, married to John Skippy Smith, who is now a minister in Georgia."

Rosa A. (Dino) Hassett writes: The one on the far right looks like Linda (Chiappini) Moore, my cousin now living in Ohio. To her immediate left looks like a McGlynn girl. The third from the left looks like she could be a Ciprich— maybe a relative of theirs?

An anonymous writer says:
"I believe this is Mrs. Mary
Saghy from Nanty Glo."

Tom Kuftic confirms: "Francis
Patrick in Nanty Glo tells me
that the next to last picture
is Mary Sagy. I know her from somewhere, but I don't
remember from where."

Another anonymous: "The
woman with the pearls
is Mary Saghy."

Rosa A. (Dino) Hassett writes: the woman standing
on the right looks like Mrs. Grembi; is her name Anastasia?
They lived in the last house near where the park and pool
is now. That picture looks like it was taken in the VFW.

Phyllis LaMantia Grembi writes: Rosa Dino was correct. The lady in
the back right is my mother-in-law, Artemesia Capelli Grembi. Next to
her in the back row is Mae Gabelli Corti Saccett. Both ladies are now deceased. My husband believes this to be the Democratic Women....
perhaps officers. To his recollection, the lady on the bottom left is a
Smith girl, possibly Joan or Joanne. She lived on Caroline Street,
near the very bottom,
near the church, before the Slovak Club.
The lady in the center bottom is Mrs. Yelinoski (?).
