For St. Patrick's Day March
17, I'm sharing a short (under four minutes) collage of video clips and still
pictures from the two places in Ireland most associated with the fourth-century
saint. The first is Armagh, County Tyrone, where he was the first bishop of all
Ireland, installed in a cathedral on the site shown in the index photo for this
video, with my son Mike. The second site associated with Patrick is Downpatrick,
County Down, which is the town closest to where Patrick is believed to have first
landed in Ireland after being kidnapped in Wales at age 16. He is also believed
to be buried in Downpatrick, at a site shown in the video. The background hymn,
"Be Thou My Vision," is based on Patrick's most famous prayer.
