With St. Patrick's Day next
week, I thought I'd share some of my video from my favorite overseas destination,
my "old country," Ireland. And since everyone has heard of Killarney,
I chose that destination as the subject for most of this 10-minute, 25-second
clip from my 1999 video journal of my Ireland trip with my late brother Tom. Next
week I hope to share views from St. Patrick's own sites in the Emerald Isle. Killarney
is a town a little smaller than Indiana, Pa., in southwestern Ireland, but it
is also the location of the Killarney National Park, portions of which are featured
here. After Killarney, we'll travel by train to the East Coast to meet a ferry
to take us across the Irish Sea to South Wales. The narration this time is from
the original videotape, with authentic background noises ranging from lapping
water on the lakeshore to the clacking of the train on the tracks, accompanied
by the Irish Lullaby, "Over in Killarney..."
