Vintondale Homecoming 2002

A festival. Fun, food and fellowship describes the annual two-day Vintondale Homecoming Celebration August 31 and September 1. The weather cooperated with two days of late summer sunny skies and pleasant temperatures. Crowds looked a little sparce on Saturday but on Sunday there appeared to have been about 500 people. People of all ages, drawn "home" were people from as far away as California, Delaware, Florida, and Kentucky were enjoying the festivities. And what would a festival be without food? Burgers, fries, holupki, pierogi, funnel cakes were among the foods available to tempt every palate.
Organizers Brenda Cassol-Turous, left, (a third-generation homecoming volunteer) served as vice president of the Homecoming committee. Tony Columbus, right, was president of the committee. Both were brought into the Homecoming preparations many years ago, as children.. Vintondale Homecoming has been held for past 30 to 35 years. When first started, it was held on the main street, until the food buildings and pavillions were built. Most of the proceeds from the food sales and games of chance go back into the Homecoming Fund to be used to finance the next year's Homecoming celebration, and some of the proceeds are donated to local churches. All the "help" is donated by civic-minded volunteers. Preparations for the festival are started three months in advance.
Greeter Life-long Vintondale resident Hazel Oblackovich manned the visitor registration booth at the Homecoming, as usual.
Vintondale native Bob Cresswell
