Grandson wins school office
These days, everyone is having a difficult decision in trying to select a presidential candidate for either the Democratic or Republican Parties. For example, can Oprah Winfrey be able to swing enough Democratic voters to support Obama, like her successful endorsement of authors and books? Or can Chuck Norris influence voters with his"karate chops and kick boxing" to give Huckabee a chance to be Republican candidate for President?
On a much smaller political scale I would like to announce that a grandson, Kevin, was elected Student Council President for the Elementary School he attends, a school comprised of 600 students. In his role he has to oversee various community projects like "toys for tots" at Christmastime, or supervise the collection of boxed or canned pet food for needy animals.
The accompanying photos show Kevin's recent swearing-in ceremony on the school's theater stage (above), and a later victory celebration held in his sixth grade class with the teachers and classmates in attendance (below).
John Edwards, eat your heart out.
This day in history
1773: Colonials dressed as Native Americans protested British taxes in what came to be known as the Boston Tea Party.
1811: An earthquake near New Madrid, Missouri, changed the course of the Mississippi River.
1901: Anthropologist Margaret Mead was born.
A yawn is nature's way of giving the person listening to a bore an opportunity to open his mouth.
Thought for today
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, "I used everything you gave me.
