Good Morning Nanty Glo!

My grandchildren

Brandi and Antony, my grandchildren.

I decided to take a page out of Frank Charney's playbook for my Thanksgiving evening Jonal entry appearing the morning after. Here's an up-to-date picture of my grandchildren. Both of my second-generation descendants are the children of my only daughter, Chris. Neither of my sons is married as yet, seeming to fit the post-modern stereotype of putting off marriage into their 30s, though both are in steady relationships and one is engaged.

Grand-daughter Brandiwyn Eleanor Akie Rodriguez will be 14 on January 16. An eighth grader in Nile Garden School in Manteca, California, she boasts a 4.0 grade point average thus far and aspires to be accepted at a top university. (I'm pushing Stanford, about 20 miles from where I live, but she keeps mentioning Harvard.) Career interests include medicine, forensics, and law. She plays in the school's girls basketball team and her hobbies include listening to old rock and alternative music and collecting spoons from many locations, including ones I've picked up for her from places ranging from Ireland to Hong Kong and Johnstown. She lived in my house for her first two years.

Grandson Antony Ian Rodriguez will be nine on February 12 and is a second grader in Von Renner Elementary School in Newman/Crows Landing California. He loves bowling and wants to work at the Jelly Belly Candy Company factory in Fairfield, near his home, when he grows up. (Apparently the late President Reagan is not the only big fan of Jelly Bellys.)

Brandi and Antony joined me to spend the holiday weekend after I had dinner with their family on Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to a highly enjoyable weekend of getting to know them better, as we now live a drive of about two hours apart these days.
