Defense of marriage - 6

I ended last Monday's entry on this topic by saying, "the larger question of this series of articles is, can and should Christians and others sharing traditional cultural values (like conservative or orthodox Jews, Mormons, Muslims) try to control the society's definition of 'marriage'? To that I have no ambivalence; my answer, 'yes'"; and I pledged to say more on this later.

I have no doubt that "secularism" is just as "religious" as any Christian denomination, or Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism or any other community of belief and hope more honest about its identity than secularism. I can't say I blame the secularists; if everyone thought I was "neutral" and all others were somehow tainted by the paintbrush of "religion," and therefore by liberal definition in violation of their understanding of separation of church and state, I'd probably lay low as well. But like the more above-board communities, secularists have their own views of the world, human nature, sin, hope, fate, even God and satan that is no less serious and sincere than mine. They also have their views of homosexuality, marriage, civil laws, and all the rest, just like the others, and like the others, they have their "denominations"—numbers of them holding "these" views and other numbers holding "those" views. All (or virtually all) that they have in common is their pretended "neutrality" when it comes to what they mean by religion and want us to accept as the accurate definition of "religion."

And this is why it's vital that the secularists should not get to force their view of marriage and the appropriateness of sexual relationships on the rest of us. At the very least, those who hold views rooted in more openly admitted "religious" backgrounds, have more votes by far than the secularists, and we must not let them hoodwink us into accepting their minority view as though it has some "superiority" because of its pretended and bogus "neutrality."

The secularist elites, with their Harvard degrees, control of the New York Times, ABC-CBS-NBC and their syndicates and franchises have a history of hoodwinking the rest of us to believe that because they're so rich and powerful, they must be smarter than we are. It is not now, nor have has it ever been, true.
