Jon Kennedy, webmasterMore Internet woes

Being already long after the normal post time for the Jonal, I'm writing this on faith that before it's time to leave for work on Friday I'll have my Internet connection restored. Thus far I have no idea what's behind the failure of my service this time around.

So today's entry will be more like a real postcard than usual, with just a note and another couple of photos from "back home." The note regards the new page added on Thursday, by a schoolmate at Blacklick Township High, Virginia Rutledge Gharky, who now lives in Ohio. I asked her to write about the February 1958 snowstorm, at which time she had to be rescued from a back road near White Mill while she was expecting to deliver a baby, which turned out to be twins. It's a story that made made all the papers and even the Today Show...but she tells the story much better than I could. Read it here.

And even though Virginia says it was just a snowstorm, not a blizzard, I've always thought of it as the closest thing I ever came to a blizzard. I remember the following summer...I believe it was the last weekend of June...driving on a backroad near Patton and seeing a small patch of still not fully melted snow remaining from that unforgettable winter.

Are we yet to the point that, since this winter has so bad, we're beginning to hope it will be one of the most unforgettable ones ever? I know, I don't get a vote on the answer to that!

Below, two more photos of the current snow, from Judy Rose. First, Route 22 near Munster, and below, a section of Horseshoe Curve with a train on the rails and a road at the bottom of the photo.

Thought for the day

Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create that fact.
