Obituary: William L. Martin, 70

                              April 6, 2009

Bill Martin, left, with Betty Nedrich in the former Nanty Glo Journal office.

The death of Nanty Glo native and lifelong resident William L. "Bill" Martin was reported on Saturday, April 4, after he had been hospitalized in Memorial Hospital with pneumonia related to congestive heart failure and after a long struggle with declining health. He was the former bureau chief of the Nanty Glo Journal and as the acknowledged unofficial historian of Nanty Glo was a founding member of the Nant-Y-Glo Tri-Area Museum and Historical Society. With Betty Nedrich, his longtime colleague at the Journal, he wrote the Brief History of Nanty Glo that was among the first items added to the Home Page after its establishment in 1997. Bill also contributed scans of many historic photos from postcards in the extensive collection he owned to the Home Page. His complete obituary follows.
