Arthur C. Price, Sr., 93, longtime Mayor of Nanty Glo, died on October 15, 2004, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born June 25, 1911, in Arnot, he was the son of the late William and Lilly Mae (Pruce) Price.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by first wife, Evelyn Fresh; second wife, Irene Curry; twin granddaughters; sons Patrick and Michael; brothers Thomas, Henry, and William; and sister Margaret Travis. He is survived by children, Caryl Sanderson; Arthur C. Price, Jr., and wife, Nancy; stepson, Billy Lee Chapman, and wife, Sara; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; by sisters, Gwin Gillis, Gen Scappiano, and Phyllis Greer, and husband, Frenchy; and a brother, Jeffery, and wife, Joyce.
Mr. Price served in the United States Marine Corps as a master gunnery sergeant E-9 for 22 years active and eight years reserve. He was a member of the Nanty Glo Borough council from 1964 to 1970, was elected mayor of Nanty Glo in 1970, and served until 1998.
He tTaught special education for 14 years at Woodvale School in Johnstown. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Khedive Temple Shriners, past commander of the Marine Corps League Conemaugh Valley Detachment, Johnstown. He was a past commander of American Legion, Post 619, Nanty Glo and a past commander of the Nanty Glo VFW Post 3489.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, the Rev. John Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. Military services will be conducted by the Marine Corps League, Conemaugh Valley Detachment.
