Girl Scouts
a history lesson on coal

Historical Society members Janet Toth and Judy Rose recently did a little project with Nanty Glo Blacklick Valley Girl Scout Troop 42161 at the Nanty Glo Library. Combine laundry bluing, lumps of coal, salt, water, food coloring and 11 chattering Girl Scouts and you have a recipe for a potential disaster. Furtunately, we didn't have one. The girls were attentive and exceptionally well behaved while the women helped them make coal plants.
Each girl hopes to have a crystal garden to show for her efforts at the troop's next meeting.

Members of the troop are Amber Pratt. Harley Harasty, Hope Keilman, Sydney Croft, Josie Harasty, Jasmine Coble, Siera Steck, Caitlyn Kimack, Cheyenne Filicky, Jenny Rhoades, and McKenna Glock. Julie Keilman has been the troop leader for six years.
