Martin (Marty) Myers dies at 62

Martin J. "Marty" Myers died Tuesday, July 31, in Essex, Vt. A Blacklick Township native and 1956 graduate of Blacklick Township High School, he was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives and the chair of the Essex town council, the Selectboard. Born August 18, 1938, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Martin O. Myers and Aileen (Luther) Myers who resides in Ebensburg. He is also survived by his wife, Linda (Krawetz), formerly of Nanty Glo, and two daughters, Robyn Ann and Kasey Marie, all of whom were with him at the time of his passing, of complications of lung cancer.

The salutatorian of his high school class, Myers attended the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown and graduated with honors from Geroge Washington University in Washington, D.C. with a bachelor of science in electronic engineering. He was employed as a project engineer and manager for 31 years by International Business Machines Corp., from which he retired in 1999.

He was elected to six consecutive three-year terms on the Selectboard, was the board's chair for 11 years, and was elected to the House of Representatives last November.

Other surviving family members include three brothers and two sisters: G. Robert Myers of Monkton, Md.; Joseph Myers of Woodbridge, Va.; Dermot Myers, Nanty Glo; Sarah Kupchella, wife of Martin Kupchella, Nanty Glo, and Mary Cossentino, Jarrettsville, Md. Burial mass was celebrated on August 4 at the Chapel of St. Michael's College, Colchester, Vt.
