More Blacklick census data online; Red Mill ('Nipton') page added
Letter No. 81 | March 6, 1999
I'm glad to see how well nantyglo.com has progressed. I really enjoy taking a peek to see the comments of your visitors. I just wanted to let you know that I have made quite a bit of progress on getting my Blacklick Township census data on line and it should be completed shortly. I have placed this data at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hollow/5913/index.html.
The site is still very basic and under development, but provides some great data for people doing genealogy research on Blacklick Township. The data for 1910 includes the area north of Blacklick Creek that was incorporated into Nanty Glo Borough. In addition to the census data, I am placing much of the historical data I have accumulated on this site to share with others and hope that more may be forthcoming. I'm sure you will appreciate the info on Red Mill, if you haven't yet seen it.
I have also been indexing the obituary listings of the Nanty Glo Journal and the Tribune Democrat for The Obituary Daily Times as I find time available. Although the full obituaries are not available, it serves a useful tool for anyone with access to the Internet to find the issue of the newspaper in which the particular obituary was published. Perhaps someone visiting your site may be interested in helping to enter the older data. I have entered all the data for the Nanty Glo Journal since January 1998 and hope to go back to 1994, for which I have most old obits. This database is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~obituary/.
I enjoyed the post card of Big BendI have a copy of that card also. I spent a long time trying to identify a familiar landmark in the view but I see none. The photo appears to have been taken from a location near the present Sts Timothy and Mark Catholic Church. I'm sure some of the houses in the view still exist; maybe someone else has been able to identify some features in the photo.
