Springfield tipple recognized in historic
photo from Library of Congress
Letter No. 306 | December 17, 2002
The picture of the tipple and rock dump is of Springfield mines. The Heisley mine rock dump is in the background, also the C&I Railroad bridge going over the creek is visible. I lived in Springfield and picked coal on that dump in the picture. We would go down to the tipple after the mine closed for the day and take coal off the loaded railroad cars. The picture brings back a lot of memories of my youth in Nanty Glo. My name is Jerry Jacobsky and I would have graduated in 1954 if I'd completed school. My email is JERRYJAY6@hotmail.com.
