Kathryn Elizabeth 'Kitty' Stefanak Letter No. 204 | October 29, 2000
The October 24 edition of the Washington Post gave additional details about Mrs. Kathryn Stefanak that might be appended to her recent write-up.
Kathryn Elizabeth (Kitty) (Taubler) Stefanak, age 90, passed away on October 10, 2000 at a rest home. She was a former bookkeeper and proofreader who retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1972. Mrs. Stefanak was born in Greenburg, Pa., and moved to Washington, DC, as a young woman. In 1937, she married Francis Stefanak, a Nanty Glo native, and accompanied him to Cincinnati and Chicago, where he worked for the FBI. They settled in Alexandria, Va., in 1960. He passed away in March 1999.
Mrs. Stefanak's federal service totaled about 15 years. She had worked for the General Services Administration in addition to the IRS.
Although busy raising five children, she did volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels, and parent-teacher organizations. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Old Town Alexandria and the Old Town Women's Club.
Survivors include five children: Andrew Stefanak of Valencia, Calif.; Suzanne Craven of Alexandria, Va.; Mary Kathryn Carlon of Benicia, Calif.; Pricilla Emens of West River, and Cynthia Wiles of Folly Beach, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Family members would appreciate it if visitors to the Nanty Glo Home Page with Greensburg area ties would notify friends and acquaintances there of the passing of "Kitty" (Taubler) Stefanak.
