Deaths of two well known Nanty Glo women

Patricia R . (McNulty) Keating

Nanty Glo resident Patricia R. Keating, 76, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, from complications related to pneumonia.

Mrs. Keating was the owner of Keating's Crafts and a devoted community activist. She was the secretary for the Blacklick Valley Ambulance Foundation and a consumer advocate for Keystone Health Systems Agency, serving as a volunteer representative between hospital personnel and the community.

Mrs. Keating was founder and program director of Blacklick Valley Community Center and personally hired the teachers who taught the classes at the community center.

Widowed since the 1986 death of her husband, Charles J. Keating Jr., Patricia Keating was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by: Suzanne Keating,Vienna,Va.; Candace A. Ling of Las Vegas; Kerry Capelli and Kelly Keating, both of Nanty Glo; Patrick, of Fargo, N.D.; Michael, of Huntingdon, and Kevin of Leesburg, Va. Also survived by seven grandchildren.

Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.


Emma (Beard) Millward

Emma Lavinia Millward, the widow of a former well known Nanty Glo businessman, died Sept. 7, 2003, at Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown, at age 92. A resident of Fourth Street, Nanty Glo, she was the daughter of Edgar and Elizabeth Jane (Kelly) Beard and was born in Rexis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph V. "Sparky" Millward; three brothers, John Hiram, Edgar Francis and James Thomas; and four sisters, Elva Viola, Mary Louella, Anne Margretta and Jenny Ellen. Survivors are four children, Janet, married to William Toth, Ebensburg; Ellen L., married to George Zelinsky, Redondo Beach, Calif.; Anne M., married to Martin Patterson, Sykesville, Md.; Jody, married to Michael Redman, Santa Barbara, Calif.; three step-children, Howard A. Millward, Phoenix; Thomas and wife, Pat Millward, Sacramento, Calif.; Richard R. Millward and wife, Jeannette, Sacramento; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, where funeral Mass was held on September 10, the Rev. Father David S. Peles, celebrant. Mrs. Millward had previously been a member of the parish Altar and Rosary Society and was retired from Stanley Home Products.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, with interment at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Nanty Glo Library.
