Where are they now?
Francis "Frank" Charney

Nanty Glo native Frank Charney was born January 18, 1932. He's a 1950 graduate of Nanty Glo High School and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He notes that he acquired "a Master's Degree in 1982 from George Washington University in Operations Research—the application of mathematics like Linear Programming, and Probability and Statistics, etc., in solving engineering and business problems."

Frank was a member of the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Married to Revloc native Rose Olinick since 1964, Frank and Rose are the parents of two children, and enjoy six grandchildren. Retired from The Department of Defense where he had a career in designing air conditioning and hydraulic systems for all classes of naval ships, Frank and Rose now make their home in Alexandria, Virginia.

Weather permitting, the Charneys make a monthly pilgrimage to Revloc where they maintain a second home.

"Playing in minstrel shows in high school" is a favorite memory of 'back then,' along with Hagens' restaurant and the Capitol Theater and the friends that were always there." He misses "the old days."

These days, Frank is a computer enthusiast, often spending many hours cruising and "blogging" the Nanty Glo Home Page website where his contributions have been well written, informative and entertaining. Frank enjoys reading and donating time to his local Knights of Columbus Chapter and has volunteered for the past three years as an AARP Tax Aide in Alexandria, helping seniors and low-income familes with their individual tax returns.

Frank and Rose enjoy "family time" and spend many hours enjoying the company of their children and grandchildren. Frank and Rose attend St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Franconia, Virginia, where he volunteers as an usher. Those who like may send greetings to fcharn@aol.com.

If you have an idea for a subject for Where Are They Now, please write Judy Rose at highlandrose43@yahoo.com.
