Wonderful trip

My plan for a while has been to write more, this week, about my early vacation trips, resuming where I left off last year in the days leading up to last year's vacation. But thus far I haven't been able to get into the right frame of mind, the "write mood" as we might say in writing classes or groups. For the past month the two other writers in my department at work have been away on vacation, lots of other people have been gone too, and it's been mostly quiet, not stressful, but this week it seems that all the work of the month has started pouring in, on top of my need to take time to make sure all my reservations are in order, I have everything set out so nothing gets forgotten on departing on Saturday, the laundry is done, and I know where I'm going when I get closer to my destinations and such. No peace...difficulty sleeping.

I never did enjoy airplanes and of course, this being the first flight in almost a year, that's part of the bother. One of those coworkers just got back from Mongolia, that Himalayan Mountains country that's part of China near Tibet and India; he flew one of the world's most dangerous airlines as part of that trip and is back in one piece, so why worry? Usually I don't, and I shouldn't.

Most of my vacations have been great times and none have been total wipeouts, despite some car breakdowns that have required changes in plans. On my trip around the world with my brother, Bob, in 1996, we were frustrated in Moscow and missed seeing any of the great sights there, including the Kremlin. I think it was mostly a result of tiredness. Though we continued on to Switzerland, India, and Hong Cong after Moscow, and had great times there, my mind was too tired in Moscow to overcome the lack of knowledge of any Russian phrases, finding anyone we could ask for help from, and other problems. Also, to my surprise, Moscow is a lot like most of the unfamous parts of New York City...high rise apartment buildings everywhere, no houses, hardly any friendly faces. I looked through my luggage for literally hours to find a phone number I'd taken along of an American missionary we could have called. I finally found it, stuck in a book...long after we were back home again.

Etiquette for rednecks (series)

Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.

Kissing the bride for more than five seconds may get you shot.

For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund and a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for this special occasion.

Thought for today

We suffer because we have no love. He who does not love has no peace, even if they were to put him in Paradise.
