Good Morning Nanty Glo!

Where are they now?
Gus Gallagher

Nanty Glo native Gus Gallagher, born 1931, attended St. Mary's Parochial School and is a 1950 graduate of Nanty Glo High School. After a tour of duty in the United States Army, Gus sought and found employment at the Johnstown Works of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Married to Johnstown native Phyllis ["Joanne"] Ringler since 1955, Gus and Joanne are the parents of six grown children who have blessed them with 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter born in August.

Although retired from Bethlehem Steel since 1993, Gus maintains contact with fellow retired work chums by getting together once a month for breakfast at a local restaurant where they share stories and memories of their years of employment together.

Gus stays active by working around the house and driving school bus—"those little kids keep you young"—, gardening, dining out with friends, and going on an occasional trip to Charleston, Va. for a little gambling. Gus continues to pursue his life-long love of polka music by attending polka festivals and playing old polka favorites on his accordian.

Gus and Joanne are very active members of St. John Vianny Catholic Church in Mundy's Corner. One of Gus' favorite memories of his old home town: in his youth, Nanty Glo had four movie theaters, the cost of admission was a whopping nine cents, and an added bonus was "The Wahoo Game at the old Victory Theater."

The Gallaghers continue to reside in Mundy's Corner in the same house they have lived in for the past 32 years. There is no email address, but anyone wishing to contact them may send greetings to Highlandrose43@yahoo.com.

I'm a senior citizen (last of a series)

I'm in the initial stage of my golden years: SS, CDs, IRAs, AARP, etc.

I'm wondering, if you're only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150?

I'm supporting all movements now...by eating bran, prunes, and raisins.

I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life!

Now, if I could only remember who sent this to me, I'd thank them! You didn't, did you?

Advent thought for the day

Jesus came to cleanse the inside of each one of us. He came to make the heart a throne for the King of Kings. He came to make the body a temple for the Holy Spirit. He came to fill us with the fullness of God's presence inside so that when the pressures of life squeeze in on us, the spill-out may not be bitterness but love, not hatred but forgiveness, not weakness but power.
