Dear
Boro Resident:
Nanty
Glo Boro has a new Beautification Committee, which began late
in 1999, and was responsible for Christmas decorating around our
town. We hope that you enjoyed and appreciated their effort and
hard work.
We
would like to inform you of some of the present and future plans
of this committee. Flowers were planted in the boxes by Admiral
Peary Vo-Tech students, and flowers were planted in the Library
flowerbed and in the Triangle Park at the entrance of Shoemaker
Street, and at the Fire hall. The benches throughout town are
being painted.
We
need you! If you would be interested in joining this committee,
we would be very glad to have you; without you, we are nothing,
as we would like to hold some kind of a fundraiser and more hands
at work makes the job Lighter.
In
the future, we would like to see a gazebo in the Library Park
dedicated to our miners of Local 1386. We thought that we could
ask you for your monetary support. We would like to see every
miner’s name on a bronze nameplate for a $100 donation. So, if
you have or have had a miner employed at Mine 31, 32, or 33a
husband. father, grandfather, or brotherwe would like to
hear from you.
For
a $25 gift, we would have your name put on a brick for a sidewalk
leading into the gazebo. If you have any relatives out of the
area that would be interested in this, please feel free to tell
them or copy this letter for your use, or let us know of them.
If
you are planning a class reunion from a Nanty Glo-Vintondale or
Blacklick Valley graduating class, or you attended the record
hops in the Miners Hall or you were a basketball player or a cheerleader
and would like to make a donation in honor or in memory of anyone
or yourself, for $50 we would list your class year and name in
a memory book
We
also would like to see new posts on our streets with banner flags,
trees planted in the center of town and our residents taking pride
in their properties by fixing up what is broken, painting, and
planting flowers and shrubbery. This is your town, and we should
be proud of it and proud to live here, but everyone has to put
forth an effort. With everyone doing a part, we can do that.
If
you have any questions about this committee and its activities
or future plans for Nanty Glo, please call Barbara Leidy at 749-8841.
We
need you! If you care about Nanty Glo and have carpentry,
masonry or landscaping knowledge, or just want to get involved
with beautifying "our town," we sure would appreciate your
help.
Retirees
do not need to be totally retiredenjoy your retirement and
use it for the betterment of you community.
Thank
you and may God bless.
Sincerely,
BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
William Martin
