Across Roberts Street from the Journal office is the Nanty Glo Public Library in the building formerly occupied by Wolf Furniture. The vacant lot on its left was formerly the site of the Nanty Glo United Mine Workers' Hall. It housed Shadden's Department Store and the Ell and Gee five and ten on the ground floor and a basketball court and stage on the second floor. Record hops were held in the gym every Saturday night for years, and the Nanty Glo-Vintondale High School basketball teams played here until the new school was built. Nanty Glo's Methodist Church is seen now across the lot, on Lloyd Street.
