Blacklick Creek antipollution effort to bring waterway back to fish habitat level?

Sandy Mehalko, a Nanty Glo native now living in Maryland, writes:

"They are finally going to clean the sulphur creek. There is a taskforce pushing for it. Since all the old railroad beds have been turned into trails (Rails to Trails) from Nanty Glo to Vintondale and on, they want to clean the stream so they can reintroduce fish."

We've attempted to check out Sandy's report on the State of Pennsylvania home page, the state department of environmental protection home page, the Times-Review (Greensburg newspaper—the area's only newspaper online) site, and the Blacklick Creek Watershed Association web site. The BCWA and the state DEP do report that such goals are being pursued on the Blacklick and all the tributaries of the Kiski River, though we found no evidence of recent major activity or breakthroughs. Keep posted for further details, and if you have any interest in area waterways, check out the BCWA site hot-linked above.
