Obituary
Cleo (Rummel) Paul dead at 97

April 8 2002

Cleo V. (Rummel) Paul died Saturday, April 6, at her home in Belsano at age 97. Born February 21, 1905, nearby in Blacklick Township, the daughter of James and Elsie (Laney) Rummel, she was cited at ceremonies, which she attended, during the Blacklick Township Sesquicentennial in 2000 as one of the four oldest living residents of the township. Both her parental family, the Rummels, and the family she married into, the Pauls, are among the pioneer families of Blacklick Township and Belsano.

Though there is no official designation of such an honor, she and her late husband, Doss Paul, and family were thought of by many as Belsano's "first family," living in the grandest house on the former Main Street (now Benjamin Franklin Highway) in the center of the village.

Mrs. Paul was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jean Davis, and is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou, married to James Mahanic of Lincoln Park, Mich., and eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Twila Davis, Irene Hoffman, and Katherine Dillemuth, and brothers, Earl "Jake" and Dean Rummel.

Mrs. Paul was a life member of Faith United Methodist Church, Belsano, and a member of Belsano Senior Citizens. Friends were received Monday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, and also from noon until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Faith United Methodist Church, Belsano. The Rev. Terry Gindlesperger will officiate. Interment will be at the adjacent (U.B.) church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lee Regional Hospice, 117 Work Drive, Johnstown, Pa. 15906.
