Webmaster's note: Theresa Mesoras Tremper found and sent the newspaper clipping above. More information is desired: Was this graduating class a four-year class (many schools omitted the sophomore year in that era)? The BTHS building has the year 1919 engraved over the main entrance, so if it opened that fall, the timing would seem right for a four-year class. Theresa wrote that Dorothy Beck was later a fourth-grade teacher at Big Bend School, Twin Rocks, and Sam DeFrank was a local barber. And there was still a Shaddens' store in Twin Rocks when I went to Big Bend School (1950s). Does the lettering on the photo perhaps mean Twin Rocks High School? The engraving over the door also calls the school "Reed," but I've never known it to be called that, perhaps because there was a Reade Township High School in Northern Cambria County (last known to have been absorbed into of BCI). Does anyone know the origin of the Reed on the school? Denise Duzsa Weber, in her book Delano's Domain, on Vintondale and other lower Blacklick Valley towns, reports that Judge Samuel Lemon Reed, a Blacklick Township native, left Belsano's Methodist Church $5000 when he died in 1934...could there be a connection between him and the school?
