Sale of book on Prince Gallitzin to benefit
Cambria County Public Library
The Cambria County Public Library is making available the book, Cambria County Catholicity: The Patrimony of Prince Gallitzin, written in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Prince-Priest Demetrius Gallitzin's assignment to the Allegheny Mountains, as a fund raiser for the library. The book was written in part by the Hon. Judge Karl Parrish.
The American Catholic Historical Society has included a collection of Father Gallitzin's business and parish records, along with his correspondence letters from Matthew Carey, Bishop Kenrick and Cheverus, which are provided in total. Reminiscent of early religious pioneers in the area, their accounts are given in full. Also, the first biography by Father Heydon in 1847, along with a list of artifacts in Philadelphia, Loretto, and Baden (near Pittsburgh), and memoirs of both Dr. Flick and Father Lemke are included. There are over 250 pages of sacerdotal records, including a 1300-name index.
Not only is this book informative and interesting reading, it is a significant font of information for anyone who may be doing genealogy research; as well as being of interest to most residents of the northern Cambria County area.
The Cambria County Library has the book available for $21.20 (state tax included) and can ship the book anywhere for an additional $2.50. Anyone interested can call Trudy Myers at the library in Johnstown, (814) 536-5131 ext. 209 - or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
