Nantyglo and Blaina are part of Blaenau Gwent municipal authority, a government entity comprised of elected councilmembers from seven formerly independently governed towns and villages. The member towns, Aberbeeg, Abertillery, Blaina, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo, and Tredegar, are shown by red diamonds on the map below, except for Aberbeeg, which is not shown but is located just below Abertillery. They are located in the County of Gwent, formerly Monmouthshire, known as the gateway to Wales (from, for example, London, Reading, Salisbury). The county's city is Newport, seen in the middle map.
