Woodside Store historical museum

Last Thursday I met my friend Carl Essex for our monthly fellowship and, at my request, he showed me around the Woodside Store and the nearby Folger Stables close to where he lives in Redwood City. The 28-minute video provides a pictorial tour of the historic Woodside Store. The narration on the video is detailed enough to require no rehearsal here.

As the map shows, Woodside is almost at the midpoint between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. It is, however, on the eastern side of the summit of the coastal range, so from Woodside it would have been necessary to convey logs to the top of the mountain first to get them down to the ocean beach, whereas the bay was almost entirely downhill from the Woodside mill. And, of course, the bay is a much more dependable—tame—body of water for shipping logs to the city.

The video was taken on my HTC EVO camera. A second video of the Folger Stables which are nearby will be posted as soon as available.
