Guadalupe River Trail Hike
Jonal entry 1175 | March 14 2011
This
hike, on Friday, March 11, should not be confused with the Guadalupe
Park Trail hike I recounted through video jonals last month. This
trail is the "shale trail" that begins where the park and
the paved park trail end, at San Jose's International airport. But
the Guadalupe River continues its northern course toward the southern
tip of the San Francisco Bay, and this "unimproved" trail
continues to follow it (which was not yet ascertained when I set out
on this hike).
I had to leave my car about a mile from where the old
trail runs out and the new one begins and walked about three more
miles on the shale, then back, for about eight miles in three hours
on a balmy (but rare for this time of year) California afternoon.
Though the trail passes directly by the bustling airport
and goes under the state's busiest freeway (known in other parts as
the Hollywood Freeway and the Ventura Freeway) it was mostly deserted.
