Luther Burbank home, creek trail and park in Santa Rosa, Ca.

Posted from Willows, Ca. -

Luther Burbank, for whom the city adjacent to Hollywood, California, is named as well as a district in San Jose and probably others, has been called the Thomas Edison of plant husbandry. The fact that some of the people I mentioned visiting his home and gardens in Santa Rosa last Saturday evening didn't recognize the name makes me wonder if they're still teaching heroes of science in the schools. As C.S. Lewis exclaimed through one of his fictional alter egos, Digory Kirke, what are they teaching them in the schools these days?

Burbank and Peanuts creator Charles Shultz are Santa Rosa's most famous son former residents. I walked around the Burbank grounds, given to the city by his widow on her death, and for a couple of blocks along a paved trail alongside a creek that emerges from underground across the street there, and then through the Julliard Park, during the final hours of daylight on a warm summery night June 11. I have tried to find the name of the creek but none of my maps had it, though apparently it is not the Russian River, as I proposed on the video soundtrack. That apparently crosses Santa Rosa a bit father north than this point, but this surely must be one of that river's tributaries..

I'm now in Willows, a couple of hours drive north-east of Santa Rosa, and may send some video from this location later.
