Land's End Trail hike, Part 3

The final segment of this video is the most interesting to me, as it is a section I had not been in for maybe 20 years. I guessed at one point that the houses on the hillside over the Pacific Ocean inlet (the Golden Gate) might be Pacific Heights, but a look on the map shows that was an incorrect guess, as Pacific Heights does not overlook the Pacific or any of its inlets. Those houses must, according to the map, be part of the Presidio, the former military base that had guarded the Golden Gate from the times California was being explored and opened by immigrants from Spain. By the map, Baker Beach is on the Presidio property (which is now part of the National Parks holdings) and virtually everything beyond Eagle Point (seen in this video) is within the Presidio.

Besides learning how to use the digital zoom on the camcorder app on my EVO phone since my previous (Santa Teresa Park) hike, I'm also learning to appreciate other features of it. One of these much in evidence in this video is how it adjusts to the light conditions and how a white area on the screen can turn into full color after the camera adjusts to moving from a shaded to a sunny part of the landscape. This outing also tested the limits of the device's battery, which gave out just as the sun was dropping into the Pacific.

Though I have a car charger for the phone, it was too dark and not sufficiently recharged by the time I got to Chinatown, all the way across downtown San Francisco, for dinner at my favorite restaurant, Chef Jia's, which I had hoped to also add to this program. Maybe sometime again.

It's Chinese New Year's, the year of the rabbit. Know where Chinese are going for New Year's dinner this year? IHOP.
