The Bay at Last
Jonal entry 1177 | April 4 2011
I dated this entry April 4, computer problems delayed its getting
online for several days.
last, on Thursday, March 31, I reached my long-pursued destination
at the southern shore of the San Francisco Bay, at Alviso, an old
town that is now incorporated into the city limits of San Jose. I
estimate the distance from downtown San Jose, where I began this trail
system six weeks or more earlier, to the bay south shore as about
15 miles, but of course I was taking it in three- or four-mile.segments,
walking north that distance from my car and then back on each segment.
At the Bay new trails converge in several directions,
with the trail "system" supposedly eventually taking hikers
all the way to Oakland on the East side of the Bay and San Francisco
on the west side.
Here is the link I promised in the video to another
video that explains, indirectly, why I'm renaming my walks "nature
walks" instead of hikes. I am no more a Seventh-Day Adventist
than any Christian is a Catholic, and a Prestyterian, a Baptist, an
Orthodox, or Seventh-Day Adventist, but I think they are onto something
that they call nature walks: http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_buettner_how_to_live_to_be_100.html.
I hope that tease is enough to whet your curiosity enough to move
you to watch the lecture which is slightly less than 20 minutes.
Useful work phrases: I see you've set aside this
special time to humiliate yourself in public.
Thought for today
Sometimes you want to teach . . . people vice
so they can know what virtue means.
